Well, I downloaded/burned the pclinux CD. Tried it out on an HP Pavillion Celeron/566 with a 3com 10/100 nic. 256mb Ram. i810 chipset.

I like the WinXP feel logon screen. While not the most secure thing since it shows users that can login, it's very nice for a home linux setup.

I didn't like that it didn't appear to use dhclient to find a dhcp server. I have to manually run /usr/bin/dhclient to get my networking addresses setup.

I also couldn't readily figure out how to let it create a swap file on my fat32 hd like knoppix does. Therefore, running the apps seemed a bit too sluggish to me.

It's a nice package but I think I prefer knoppix instead. It seemed easier for the newbie/novice to just plug and play. If I didn't already know how to get the dhcp setup running I probably would have immediately dumped the CD into the trash as unusable.

My $.02
