Gentoo Linux uses ssmtp as a very simple smtp sender. It is used by cron
and other mail generating software. It's only disadvantage is that if it
fails to send the message, it doesn't spool and retry it later. As long as
the machine is never going to receive e-mail, or have local mailboxes, this
might be what you want.
