[NMLUG] OT: UPS Questions

I have no expertese on this area...  but I've had no problems
with relatively affordable APC UPS's.  I dunno what they are new...
I got them at a going-out-of-business auction for $20 ea, 350w.
New they might run 15 minutes, in current state, its more like 5.
(They need new batteries)

I think that these 350-450w versions run $40-$60 new, and have
serial port interfaces.

I plug the machines to the UPS and monitors to un-powered line.
If I need to do something non-automatic when power is out, I can
plug the monitor to the battery lines for a minute or two.

Frankly, I can think of no reason to run a computer without one
(unless you have something fancier)
